This summer is a chance to be outside and learn about how our food grows and who grows it. YouthGrow is designed for local kids, creating opportunities to make friends, visit local organic farms and gardens, learn gardening skills, cook with fresh produce every day, engage in various arts and crafts projects, and most importantly; get dirty outdoors!
YouthGrow is a day camp for kids aged 7-11 located at the Northwest Youth Corps’ Laurel Valley Education Farm. This is a fun, educational week long gardening summer camp hosted by Northwest Youth Corps along with partnering organizations, the School Garden Project and Eugene's Farm to School program. The program is staffed by well trained and energetic AmeriCorps members that lead all activities with youth, which include the activities listed below, and many more!
Planting seeds and starts
Harvesting produce
Cooking with fresh fruits and veggies from the farm
Creating nature arts and crafts using recycled materials
Field trips to local farms
Playing garden games
Learning about soil, bugs and compost
YouthGrow will make summer 2012 one to remember! Participants will learn, explore, and have fun outdoors. All who come will leave with an appreciation of gardening, an understanding of local and organic farming, new knowledge about the natural environment, healthy recipes, arts and craft projects to take home, lots of new friends, and tons of great memories.
Play! Learn! Grow!
