5:30 pm MECCA Gallery (449 Willamette St) This January, MECCA is excited to show “Relicry,” the eclectic and fascinating work of Jill Mardin and Pazyryk. Both Jill and Pazyryk are proficient reuse artists. Paz presents skulls and bones, beautifully transformed and intertwined with other materials, while Jill brings us a diverse mixture of mediums and materials that end up "looking like something you'd unearth at an archeological dig." Both artists live rurally and find themselves spending much of their winter months creating their works. Pazyryk states, "I have traveled through space and time to arrive at this most fortunate moment in history. I search this world and the next for the derelict discards of life gone by. Continuously fascinated with the remnants of the past, I create relics of the future. After years of formal art training in well-mannered learning institutions, I broke free. Free from convention, free from expectation, free from the ties that bind creativity. My undying curiosity has left me with a keen appreciation for the exquisite backbone of life - quite literally. And thus, for your enjoyment, I combine my eclectic talents and bizarre fascinations to bring you all things skeletal."
