Log line: After her family loses their home in a fire, a shadow box artist must decide whether to return to her traditional domestic roles of wife and mother or to follow through with her plan to leave her husband, a decision she has made just prior to the fire, honoring her impulse to remain in a motel room – free from domestic duties – free to pursue the authentic and creative life she desires.
FOUND OBJECTS is a story of loss and inspiration and a search for self, told from the perspective of Claire Randall, shadow box artist and wife and mother of three. The journey begins the morning after Claire’s family’s home has burned down.
Set in Filbert Grove, Oregon (a town much like Eugene), present-day, the central storyline follows Claire, a shadow box artist and wife and mother of three. Just prior to the house fire, Claire has told her husband, Jack, of her plans to leave him. Following the fire, Claire struggles with whether or not to follow through in light of the family tragedy. Will she return to her previous life and resume the traditional roles of wife and mother? Or will she remain in a motel room, free of her conventional domestic existence, so she can create a new life that allows for personal authenticity and the physical and emotional space to make her art: shadow boxes made from found objects she finds in junk and antique shops and on her routine walks in the country?
Tag Line: If every creative woman were as devoted to herself as she is to her relationships with others, what kind of world would we live in?
