Elena Villa teaches and performs traditional flamenco dance and Middle Eastern Belly Dance, as well as her original style of Spanish Arabic fusion dance. Elena combines cultural information with a strong foundation in the traditional music and movements of these two art forms. She began performing as a young girl in the late 1970s and began her professional teaching practice in 1996. In performance, Elena specializes in working with live music and collaborating with other professional artists. Elena Villa teaches her own original choreographies, as well as those learned from international masters in the field. Elena also holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Oregon where she teaches literature and film as an adjunct instructor. Her dissertation focused on cross-cultural representations of the dancer and performance as cultural memory. Elena Villa is available for lectures, school demonstrations, workshops, master classes, special event performances, and weekly and private dance lessons at all levels.
