The David Joyce Gallery located in the Center for Meeting and Learning at Lane Community College has opened its Winter 2012 exhibit entitled Winter: Red, Red the Color of Warm featuring nine Oregon artists in a variety of mediums. Artists Laura Jaszkowski, LaVonne Tarbox-Crone, Roka Walsh, Renee L. Nelson, Dan Welton, Pamela Summer-Joy Blackhorse, Ellen Hamill, Jack Larson, and Jim Bailey, with support from Exhibit Designer Susan Detroy, present stunning imagery of flowers, foods, and environments – both urban and natural. Red, Red the Color of Warm is a study in Color Theory. Red was chosen to inspire the artist to look beyond the obvious and share with us their colorful illumination during the dreary, grey winter months.
The Gallery is also showcasing eclectic, photographic cutout fragments of artist David Joyce to whom the Gallery is named. David was an art instructor at Lane for 25 years and most known in the community for his monumental flying people mural “Flight Patterns” at the Eugene Airport, which is currently being re-touched. A variety of David’s art will be shown with each Gallery exhibit this year.
Red, Red the Color of Warm runs until Thursday, March 22, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. All art is for sale with 25% of the proceeds supporting the David Joyce Gallery. David Joyce's featured fragments are also for sale with 100% of the proceed directed to the Gallery fund. An artists’ reception will be held Thursday, March 1 from 4:30pm-6:00pm with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments prepared and served by the students in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management program.
