Andrea DiPalma Yansane has been performing and teaching West African dance, song, and percussion to kids and adults throughout the Pacific Northwest since 1994.
For close to seven years she lived in Guinea, West Africa training with two different performance troupes and studying with talented artists and musicians while being immersed in Guinea's rich and vibrant culture. Andrea is fluent in Susu language of Guinea which has helped her transcend the cultural barrier and gain an appreciation and understanding of the inner workings of Guinea society.
Her teaching style is clear and comprehensive, making learning accessible to all skill levels, ages, and backgrounds. Her fiery passion and adoration of this dance form inspires those in her presence to move their bodies and release their inhibitions. Andrea is co-founder of Won Tan Nara Productions and the West African Cultural Arts Institute non-profit organization.
